Filmed at Indiana’s Pendleton Correctional Facility during the same production period as the HBO film O.G.It’s a Hard Truth Ain’t It follows 13 incarcerated men as they study filmmaking as a vehicle to explore their memories and how they ended up with decades-long sentences. Animated sequences by Yoni Goodman bring their stories to life. It’s a Hard Truth Ain’t It was nominated for an Emmy Award in the Outstanding Arts and Culture Documentary category.   

Directed by Madeleine Sackler and thirteen men incarcerated at Pendleton Correction Facility. A Great Curve Films and Stacey Reiss production.

Madeleine Sackler pays tribute to Charles Lawrence, a co-director of the film, after his passing in prison of Covid-19.

Madeleine Sackler received the Bill Webber Award for Community Service from Hudson Link for Higher Education in Prison for her most recent films, the documentary, It's a Hard Truth Ain't it, and the critically acclaimed feature film O.G., starring Jeffrey Wright and Theothus Carter.  She is also the director and producer of Dangerous Acts Starring the Unstable Elements Of Belarus, Duke 91 & 92: Back To Back, and The Lottery.
